ASEAN Defence Observation Mission Will Last Two Weeks, Says Spokesperson
According to Maly Socheata, spokesperson for the Ministry of National Defence, the observer group includes military representatives from seven ASEAN nations and aims to reinforce regional peace, stability, cooperation, and development during a sensitive period following armed clashes in late July.
“The ASEAN Defence Observer Group, led by the Malaysian Defence Attaché, will conduct a two-week mission to observe the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and support peace, stability, cooperation, and development,” she added.
The observers will be deployed across key border zones, including Oddar Meanchey and Preah Vihear provinces—areas most affected by recent military tensions. They consist of participants from the militaries of six other ASEAN countries—Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam.
